Short thought!!!

By staying far away from so many loved ones I came to realize, once again, how important it is to truly care for their ties. This time it is not like the usual 2 month trips in Bulgaria where I leave some friends and family to go see some other good friends and family and know that I will be back. The feeling is excellent and the environment, Bulgaria, is just classically perfect.

Now, Exactly at the other end of the world from my home, and a quarter of a world away from my native country, I feel differently. But still I easily find some sense into what I am doing. I am not alone here. I am the accumulation of what the people before me where. I stand on tall shoulders and that is the only reason I can see so far. Everything I do is impregnated by my friends and family's words and gestures. I have listened to you for a long time and intend to keep on doing so. But it is time to show the world that we are world class citizens now. Our collective spirit can get a person to do what he pleases. Your stories become fantastic tales when they come out of my mouth here. I still grow with you guys, and I promise to give you back what you have to given me up to now. For now let's go to sleep, for some of us, wake up for others and finally having dinner for the ones in Bulgaria.

I love you all, Peace.

Ahtung: Typhoon warning!!!!

This weekend I got the chance to experience my first typhoon. Basically, typhoon is what we call wind and rain. I think the word means Master of Winds or something close. Or in Greek mythology, Typhon was the last son of Gaia who was the offspring of the Earth and the cavernous void beneath.

We have a typhoon of force 3 (out of a scale that goes up to 10). Winds go up to 60km/hour. Rain is still falling vertically (which is not the case after force 6 or 7). The school authorities warned us and recommended getting some more provisions. But no classes were cancelled, public transport still works and no one really seams to care. I feel unaffected; I still went 3 days in row to have my 3km swim in the outdoor pool. Only the last day did I get the chance of swimming while it was raining. The feeling was incredible, given the incredible shaded view of the islands in the bay right on the other side of the school fence.

Introduction

I live in a 7 sq metre room with Simon Christian René Gaudin. He is a relax, tall, typical “France above all nation” dude. He is the archetype of what a finance shark should be. We have the same personality type, more or less, except we came to develop it in totally different environments, which ultimately leads to very enriching conversations.

The other girl that came with me is Julie Lagacé. We both study at McGill University back in Montreal and it just happens she chose China for her exchange program as well. We live in the same building, same floor and enjoy the same luxury within our rooms :-(

The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology happens to have been chosen as the best business school in Asia for the MBA programs. Also, according to the latest edition of Newsweek magazine, our IT department holds the 20th rank in the world!!! The university is absolutely beautiful. Its cozy suburban location is due to the fact the university was built not more than 15 years ago. The buildings acquire a very exotic taste in the middle of the rich forest that surround them.

We have all the needed accommodations on campus. We have maximum 10 different places where we can have a bite. Most of them are typically Chinese dishes, which are excellent most of the time. We also have a breakfast place that serves western breakfasts (eggs, toasts and all that stuff), a McDonald’s of course. A small grocery called Park’n’shop satisfies the everyday needs. There is a huge 5 storey library with an astonishing view of the surrounding islands and the ocean. We have an outdoor pool as well as an outdoor football field (Soccer… for my Canadian buddies!!!).There are many more things to see on campus, but I just haven’t got the opportunity to go yet.
